Just finished the Porsche Driving Expereince at the North America HQ in Atlanta. We got 30 minutes in the simulators and then we did the mid/rear engine experience. We had 45 min in a 911 and 45 min in a Cayman GTS. My instructor, Fred Huff, was fantastic. It monsooned on us half way through and it was awesome. We just kept on going. Did the high speed track, launch, slalom, kick plate and low friction circle (drift).
The 911 felt rock solid, but it was mostly dry for the high speed time in that car. The GTS was fun, but you feel it move much more. Sounded amazing though. The drift/low friction pad was tough, but huge fun.
Oh baby
First car to podium for Porsche at Le Mans. Worth about $5M.

Now THAT is a righteous Father’s Day gift. I’ll be lucky to get a Porsche Lego set.

Caught a deal, so it wasn't too bad. But, yeah, pretty awesome.

Did the A321 set a lap time?

2 questions:
1. Which pulled harder: the 911 or that 757?
2. If you could take the 911 or Cayman home, which one would you choose?

I still need to do this. My friends are bigger cheapskates than even I am. Guess I’ll have to bite the bullet, and just go it alone.

Looks like a great time!
I was excited when I saw your post because I know a couple of the instructors there, and was hoping you’d gotten one of them. haha

Why was there a corvette and a jaguar F-type?

Good question! Next week they are rolling out the new 718 Boxter. They are closing the place down to outsiders and having the dealers come in to learn the car. Part of that will be driving the competition.

They are still coming around the last turn.

The staff all seemed like good folks. My guy was a hoot and an inspiration story. He was not a race driver, worked in the government, and decided he wanted a change when he turned 40. Figured out a way to get into Porsche when they moved their HQ.

911 off the line, but over 100 I would take a 757. Did a min min distance launch in a 757 once. ‘Twas freaking awesome.
Money was no option? 911. Think felt grounded to the ground. Solid. The Cauman was fantastic, and the sound was like a drug, but if I had to choose I would go 911. There was a sea foam blue 911 Turbo convertible in the parking lot that was stunning. Had the dealer sticker in th window. $320k. Had ever option ticked.

It's good fun. Different than the BMW Expereince up in Carolina, but fun and cheaper.

Yep. As fun as it sounded. It was cool to drive 2 cars to compare.

How’s the track? From what I can see from the highway it looks really narrow. So narrow, you just follow it instead of finding the “racing line”.

There is a distinct line. It is narrow in some places and wider in others, so hitting the line is vital to getting around with any kind of pace. That said the small esses at the south end of the track are damn narrow when you are on the line. The armco walls are generally right there as well. Adds a little to the pucker factor when you are driving a $100k car. We sprung for the optional insurance by the way.

What were you there for? Just for fun, or an event?

Just fun. My friend won a $500 Amex gift card in a company event and offered to split it with me at Porsche. That got the cost down.

It is $500 for the 90 min driving and the sims were a free add on for Fathers Day

That’s pretty awesome. I went from government, politics, to automotive too, but my change wasn’t as cool. Haha
